Direct Ordering • Know The Difference

“Online Ordering by DoorDash” Isn’t Ordering Direct.

It looks like the restaurant’s own checkout. It sits on the restaurant’s own website. But there is still a third party sitting between your order and our kitchen.

Direct means direct: our menu, our checkout, our kitchen, our neighbourhood.

The Sleight Of Hand

“Commission-free” is not the same as free

White-label ordering products are sold to restaurants on one promise: no marketplace commission. That part is real, and it is genuinely better than the app. But a commission is only one of the ways an order gets taxed on its way to a kitchen.

Payment processing still applies, on every order, on the full amount. Delivery still costs money, and if it is fulfilled by the platform’s couriers that is another fee layered on top. The checkout still belongs to somebody else.

And the part nobody puts on the marketing page: the customer relationship. Who holds the order history, the email address, the ability to tell you we are opening early on Saturday. When that sits with a third party, a small restaurant is renting access to its own regulars.

We would rather just have your order. Directly.

Know What You’re Using

Four ways to tell if you’re really ordering direct

Plenty of restaurant websites have an “Order Online” button that quietly hands you to a third party. Here is how to check — on any restaurant’s site, not just ours.

  1. Watch the address bar

If clicking “order” sends you to a big platform’s domain, or opens their app, the order is going through them — however the button was labelled.

  2. Read the fee line

Direct checkouts have a short, plain fee line. Stacked service fees, delivery fees and small-order fees are a marketplace signature.

  3. Compare the menu prices

If the same dish costs more on the app than in the restaurant, you are looking at a commission being passed along to you.

  4. See who answers

When something goes wrong, a direct order means you call the restaurant and a person who made your food picks up.

For Context

What the marketplace side costs

The white-label button is the gentler product. The marketplace app run by the same company is where the well-known numbers live — and it is the reason so many restaurants reach for a white-label option at all. Stacked at their published maximums:

  • Commission taken from the restaurant up to 30%

Marketplace commission on delivery orders. Published tiers run from roughly 15% at the bottom to 30% at the top.

  • Credit card processing about 3%

Charged on top of the commission, on the full order value.

  • Fees added to the customer up to 15%

Service fees, delivery fees and small-order fees stacked onto what you pay.

  • Skimmed off a single order up to 48%

Around 33% comes off the restaurant and up to 15% is added to the customer. That is the pressure that makes a “commission-free” button look like relief.

Ordering direct from us avoids the whole structure. No commission comes out of the order, no percentage is added to your total, and nothing is routed through a company headquartered two states away. You pay for the food and one small ordering fee.
